Last 7 Days Player Notes
Aug. 21 Matt Diaz (LF) ATL will not need surgery for his reinjured right knee, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. But he will need to spend another four weeks rehabbing and strengthening the knee.
Aug. 20Houston hurler Wandy Rodriguez (P) HOU saw his record drop to 7-6 as the Astros were downed by the Brewers 5-2. Rodriguez was wild, throwing five bases on balls in 5.1 innings, but allowing just two earned runs. He also struck out six in the contest.
Aug. 20 Scott Olsen (P) FLA would like to remain with the Marlins, primarily to see how the rotation would fare over the course of an entire season, according to the Miami Herald. Olsen is one of the team's three starters eligible for arbitration after this season, and is also aware that he could be the odd man out in that group as the Marlins decide which pitchers to keep. He said, "I don't know exactly where it's going to fall. Personally, I'd like to see what us five guys could do throughout the course of a whole year together. I would just like to have one shot where we get us five guys together and see what happens."
Aug. 19Outfielder Shane Victorino (CF) PHI was the main source of power for the Phillies' offense in the 5-4 win over Washington this evening, going 2-for-3 with a double and a triple to total two runs scored.
Aug. 18 Jorge Campillo (P) ATL allowed five runs on seven hits and a while with two strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings Monday in a loss to the Giants.
Aug. 17The Giants couldn't make use of the hits they were posting and the Braves couldn't get the bats going in the first place, leaving the Giants with hard-fought 3-1 over Atlanta. Atlanta starter Charlie Morton (P) ATL should have found better returns, going six innings to surrender three runs (all earned) on seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
Aug. 17 Moises Alou (LF) NYM has been transferred to the 60-day DL, according to the AP. The Mets acquired reliever Luis Ayala from the Nationals, and moved Alou to make room on the roster.
Aug. 16Catcher Gary Bennett (C) LAD is probably finished for the season as the plantar fascitis he is suffering from in his left foot simply has not healed, according to the L.A. Daily News.
Aug. 16 Jamie Moyer (P) PHI won the old geezer battle Friday, tossing seven shutout innings to beat Greg Maddux and the Padres.
