July 2, 2008 No sooner do we speculate on when Brett Favre's potential comments about the news of today, stating he was seeking a team to join for a return to the NFL, then ESPN reports Favre has contacted them and is stating he has no interest in returning to the game. July 2, 2008 In a string of reports we have brought forth concerning a potential return for veteran passer Brett Favre , we are now hearing reports that Favre has in fact requested his release from the Green Bay Packers, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. July 2, 2008 ESPN is reporting that Brett Favre said the talk of him coming out of retirement is "all rumor". Chris Mortenson reported earlier today that Favre has the "itch" to return to the gridiron. July 2, 2008 ESPN is reporting that Brett Favre has an "itch" to report to Packers training camp and play one more season. The report notes that Favre spoke with head coach Mike McCarthy but talks are in the preliminary stages. According to an unnamed source the team is hesitant to bring the veteran back into the fold because "Brett retired for the right reasons, even though I know his family is tugging on him [to play]." James Cook, Favre's agent said "As far as I know, right now, Brett Favre is retired."
